Port Orchard Masonic Lodge #98 was chartered in 1898 as part of District 12. Local businessman John Anslow served as the first worshiped master. There were five lodges in District 12 during that time. The Masons for Lodge #98 met at various locations in Bremerton and Port Orchard until, in 1908, the Masons in Port Orchard built the first Masonic Hall one block up the hill from Bay Street. To capitalize on their investment, the first floor was designed to house commercial uses and the second floor was dedicated to lodge functions. While the architect is unknown, the design is reflective of many early 20th century fraternal organization buildings.
Early first floor tenants included a print shop and the local commercial club. Between 1920 and 1924, The Port Orchard Independent was housed here.
Besides the Masons, other organizations made use of the second floor, including Independent Order of Odd Fellows Olympic View, Port Orchard Chapter #44 of the Order of the Eastern Star, Rainbow Girls. The Masons built a new building further up Sidney Avenue and moved their in 1950, selling the building to Port Orchard Aerie No. 2338, Fraternal Order of Eagles. It was sold in 1956 to the Olympic View Lodge No. 254, Independent Order of Odd Fellows.
