I have recently been blessed with the opportunity to become a full time artist. I have worked as a Physician Assistant for r28 years and retired last year. Along with my science degree I have an associate degree in design with a focus on architectural rendering. I have enjoyed balancing my busy medical career with my love of art.

I have attended art workshops, engaged in self study and had the opportunity to work with the talented artist and friend, Anna Hoey.

My focus has been oil, watercolor and mixed media. I am currently exploring pastel, graphite and colored pencil. I love seeing what each media brings to my art.

Helen Norris Entry: Baked Zone (Drawing – Pastel)

“Baked Zone” was inspired by a beautiful photograph taken by a friend in Glacier National Park.

The low mist and snow tipped trees gives a wonderful contrast to the warm red, hardened earth in the foreground that I loved. I chose pastel to create a soft misty atmosphere.

A baked zone is an area of sedimentary rock that has been altered by hot magma or lava that “bakes” the rock causing their minerals to recrystalize altering their color.

My work, “Baked Zone”, was an exploration of the beautiful depth of color provided with pastels.
